1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to website operators. Cookies allow websites to remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and understand how you interact with the site.
2. Cookies We Use
HabanoFinder uses the following categories of cookies:
2.1 Essential Cookies (Strictly Necessary)
These cookies are required for the basic operation of the Service and cannot be disabled. They include:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| session_id | Maintains your authenticated session after logging in. Required for account functionality. | Session (deleted when you close your browser) or up to 30 days if "Remember Me" is selected |
| csrf_token | Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks. A security measure for form submissions. | Session |
| cookie_consent | Remembers your cookie consent preferences so we do not ask you again. | 1 year |
2.2 Functional Cookies
These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalization. Disabling them may affect your experience but will not prevent you from using the Service.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| search_prefs | Remembers your search preferences such as default sorting order and preferred currency display. | 1 year |
| recent_searches | Stores your recent search queries locally for quick access and autocomplete suggestions. | 30 days |
| theme_pref | Stores your display preference (such as compact vs. expanded view). | 1 year |
2.3 Analytics Cookies
We use analytics cookies to understand how visitors interact with the Service. This helps us improve functionality and content.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _hf_analytics | First-party analytics cookie used to track page views, search patterns, outbound clicks, and feature usage. Data is used in aggregate to improve the Service. | 1 year |
We do not currently use third-party analytics services such as Google Analytics. All analytics tracking is first-party (performed by our own servers). If we add third-party analytics in the future, this policy will be updated accordingly.
2.4 Third-Party Cookies
The following third-party services may set cookies on your device when you use the Service:
| Service | Purpose | More Info |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare Turnstile | Bot protection on forms (registration, login). Turnstile may set cookies to distinguish human users from automated bots. These cookies are essential for security and cannot be disabled without losing access to protected forms. | Cloudflare Privacy Policy |
| Stripe | Payment processing for premium subscriptions. Stripe may set cookies when you interact with the payment form. These cookies are only present on pages with payment functionality. | Stripe Privacy Policy |
3. Cookies We Do Not Use
HabanoFinder does not use:
- Advertising or targeting cookies: We do not serve ads and do not use cookies to track you across other websites.
- Social media cookies: We do not embed social media widgets that set cookies.
4. Local Storage
In addition to cookies, we use browser localStorage to store data on your device. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is not sent to our server with every request -- it remains on your device and is accessed only by our frontend code.
| Key | Purpose | Contains |
|---|---|---|
| darkMode | Stores your dark mode preference so the site remembers your display theme between visits. | Boolean value (true/false) |
| auth_token | Stores your authentication token after login so you remain signed in between page loads and browser sessions. | JWT (JSON Web Token) containing your user ID and session information. Does not contain your password. |
| recent_searches | Stores your recent search queries locally for quick access and autocomplete suggestions. | Array of recent search query strings |
You can clear localStorage through your browser's developer tools (usually accessible via F12) or through your browser's settings under site data. Clearing localStorage will log you out and reset your display preferences.
5. Managing Cookies
You can control and manage cookies in several ways:
5.1 Browser Settings
Most web browsers allow you to manage cookies through their settings. You can typically:
- View what cookies are stored on your device
- Delete individual cookies or all cookies
- Block cookies from specific sites or all sites
- Block third-party cookies
- Set your browser to notify you when a cookie is being set
Please note that blocking or deleting essential cookies may prevent you from using certain features of the Service, such as staying logged in. Blocking Cloudflare Turnstile cookies may prevent you from registering or logging in.
